Still trouble with mail scanner and SSL :-(

Suddenly avast mail scanner won’t connect using SSL.
I can use SSL from my mail program.
But if I use non-SSL there and turn on SSL in the avast mail scanner
I get a SSL_connect_error_5 from the server.

Same thing happened on another system.
And there I fixed it by reinstalling avast.
But it’s a bit of a hassle doing that every week :frowning:

Any ideas?

is this Gmail or Yahoo account ?

No, it’s to regular POP3 accounts (and SMTP servers at the same ISPs).
Today it didn’t work with “none” as security in the mail scanner either!!!
Had to delete the entries that avast automaticly creates to make it work.
Seems like the redirect list for mail account (where you can select SSL) doesn’t work.
If I reinstall it works again - for a while :frowning:

you may try latest version just released… http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=83583.0

Will try. Even if it says nothing about the mail-scanner.
Try to upgrade first. Will try clean install if no help.

Still trouble rrdirecting to SSL.
If I select SSL in the mail program (Forte Agent) it checks mail OK.
If I turn of SSL in the mail program, and then turn on SSL in avast! mail scanner
(so that it will scan the mail, and then connect further with SSL) this happens (see image).
Seems like avast gets an error when connecting to the POP3 server with SSL.
And sends that error back to the mail program.
But what does the error tell?
And why do I not get this error when using SSL directly from the mail program?

Not sure of the problem, but attachments show the setup that works for me to retrieve SSL email via Forte Agent from Windows Live Mail. The avast! items were generated automatically. Is your setup identical? I don’t normally use Agent for email so this is just a test to see that Agent and Avast! work together properly.

Exacly the same as I have.
And it has worked before.
But suddenly I started getting those errors.
Seems like the POP3 servers in the other end won’t let the avast service connect.
Must be something different in how that connects from how the mail program does it.
For now things work if I select “None” in avast, but of course then it’s not encryped
(and the last time that stopped working after a while as well…)
