I had seen this before, but the impression I got this is down to Google not avast, in that it sees the browser you use when using google search.
I have just run a search using google (I normally use yahoo.uk), I didn’t get any suggestion about Google Chrome.
I don’t know if this will make any difference, but given your dislike of chrome, it certainly won’t hurt.
AvastUI > Settings > Troubleshooting > check the ‘Do not use Chrome as Avast default browser’ option.
@DavidR, thanks for the reply. I already had “Do not use Chrome as Avast default browser” checked.
Perhaps something else? It really bugs me to see this popup from Avast. I use Firefox, I plan on sticking with Firefox. I think Avast shouldn’t be bugging me every day to install Chrome.
In all honesty when I say that notice I believed it to be Google which displayed it.
As I mentioned I rarely use Google search, which is why I ran a google search to see if I could replicate it, but was unable to do so.
Jeff,
please attach a screenshot of the message.
It may tell us more.
As soon as it pops up, I will screenshot it. It happens everyday – may take a couple of hours.
It’s avast. It has the orange colors with baby blue buttons and etc. And it says Avast…
P.S. your capcha to make a reply is annoying. The letters are sometimes difficult to read.
You will be happy to know this anti-spam captcha function is only for the first three posts, so you should be done. To be effective it does have to be difficult.
Yes, I am glad that’s over.
The funny thing is that I’ve had this account for a while. So I don’t know whatever happened to my previous posts. Did you guys have a forum update or a prune of old accounts?
Regardless, I am still waiting for the Avast Chrome ad to pop up. Do you guys have any recent screenshots of this? If I see it, I can verify it.
I think this Chrome popup should have a “no thanks” link so we can disable it. No need to annoy the end-user who doesn’t care to use Chrome for whatever reasons.
Old accounts weren’t culled as far as I’m aware.
The major change to the forums was a forum software update and a different login system. Things are now tied to your my.avast.com account. Logging into that would also allow access to forum.avast.com. But the account and forum credentials may differ in that your email address is your user name and your previous password may still be valid.
So how did you try to logon to this previous forum account (don’t give sensitive data, just how) ?
Was your previous forum account Display Name the same as now (though it shouldn’t be if your previous account is still present) ?
The forum doesn’t display that user name, but Name (screen name) is displayed.
I knew I had an account, so when logging in, I said I couldn’t remember my login, and I entered my email, and it sent me an email to validate my email and then to change my password. After that, I noticed that I had to change my username. But after getting inside my profile, I could not find my old posts. Profile seemed to have been cleared (account summary), since it now displays that my first time registering was today. – It’s no big deal. Just odd.
P.S. is there a way to modify the settings, when I reply to a post, after submitting it doesn’t send me back to the main forum view, but instead keeps me in this post? – Nevermind, I figured it out.
That is what I was on about you wouldn’t be able to use the same user (display) name, duplicates aren’t allowed. When you go into your profile settings, look at the URL address bar and you will see at the end you will also see (?action=profile;u=xxxxxx) that you are also assigned a user number.
That is the point of not being able to see other peoples/users posts, even if it is the same person, it is a different user profile (and different user number) and the forum software isn’t aware of that.
