Stop your annoying messages Avast!

Almost each time i turn on my PC an Avast message pops, telling me:

  • to perform an intelligent scan
    or
  • telling how Avast is so good blocking threats each month.
    or
    something else regarding this product

I’m tired of them, i paid for a license, make it stop!

There are MANY that agree with you and are also Frustrated.
IMO, A paid version should not be held hostage to pop up advertisements.

Since he is running a paid product, he can deactivate most advert popups.

Open Avast > Settings > General > Popups > Uncheck “Show popups offers for others Avast products”.

Personally I am aware of that, I simply feel that shouldn’t be necessary in a Paid Version

Totally agreed with you schmidthouse, but since it was not mentioned, I did in case psikofunkster did not know.

Thanks, understand

Many thanks.

By default that option should be disabled for paying users.

Yes, then again, Avast would not be able to promote other products until the user finds it :-X

… and you’re welcome  Glad I could help ;D

But that’s not a reason and you know it, if each software company promoted their products through others all this IT world would be a mess, could you imagine iTunes popping messages about buying an iMac? no way.

I could understand it for Avast free but definitely a NO for paying subscribers, at least there was an option to disable it.

Question: is there any disadvantage of using silent/gaming mode all the time just to stop messages that advertise products? In other words, does it still block viruses as effectively but it merely doesn’t inform me about doing so?

Hi self29

In Silent/Gaming Mode everything in Avast! functions as it should, so also blocking viruses ( malware ). You only don’t get the pop-up to inform you.

Thank you for replying to me. Then why doesn’t everyone use silent mode all the time? What is it that they want to have reported to them? That a certain site has malware so they can make the decision not to return to that site in the future? I’m not sure what else I might ever want to be informed about.

Well personally, any ‘event’ that concerns the security of my OS, I want to be informed of.

Imagine for example this scenario :

You are somehow infected with a new type of Malware that Avast! doesn’t yet detect.
And that new type of Malware tries to connect to a Domain to download other Malware.
But Avast! blocks that Domain because it is known as bad.
Because you are using Silent/Gaming Mode, you won’t be alarmed about that.
And you don’t know that there is something wrong.
That is a disadvantage of ( continuesly ) using Silent/Gaming Mode.
