Streaming Music pausing - WMP

I have found no way to stop the pausing, other than disabling Avast. I have tried many different things, including adding the URL into avast. Anyone found a solution to this? Basically, any FM stream gets paused at least once every minute or two. I use this URL mostly.

Thanks for any advice.

hi!

i couldn’t notice any problems… ???
i listent for some minutes already without any pauses or stops…

did you set avast to high or standard?
which browser do you use?

I am using IE 7.0.6001.18000. I run Vista64-SR1 in Admin mode. UAC on. Avast is set to standard or custom - depending.

I just downloaded the newest Beta of Avast. I will see how this goes. Thanks for the fast reply

Well I often get stuff like this but it is down to my pathetic dial-up connection so what is your connection method ?

Some streaming media content uses port 80 http but doesn’t completely conform to HTTP protocols and that too could have an impact on the web shield as it is expecting only http protocol.

I’m trying to connect to that link now but it is like trying to pour treacle in a very cold day it is very media intensive to even load the page. Eventually when the page has loaded, as I type this I’m listening to the radio and have been for a few minutes now and no pauses. So no problems here even on dial-up.

What is your firewall ?

What other security software do you have as if Terminating the Web Shield it works than it could be an indication of conflict.

I have been listening now for about 15 minutes and I have a few blips of a few seconds duration. This has mostly been when I continue browsing, though now I’m getting it more frequently. This site however does a lot of flip flopping between thefoxradio.ca and streamtheworld and I don’t know if this might just have an impact.

Currently it is pretty unworkable, and even with the web shield terminated I’m getting huge delays, so I really don’t think the problem is with the web shield if it is terminated and the problem exists. The avast isn’t rotating which is an indicating nothing is being scanned and there is no music, so this means that nothing on avast is scanning content but there is still a problem.

Now much of this may be down to my dial-up but ‘onlysomeone’ says he didn’t experience a problem, so I can only assume his connection is better.

Well, I just checked again to make sure all settings were set to Normal. They are. I am still getting pauses. But if I “Stop On-Access Protection” the music plays steadly.

I have a very fast ADSL internet connection. My internet pretty well never pauses or slows - anytime - day or night. I used to run my own computer business. Software and Hardware maintenace - so this has been frustrating. I am using Vista’s Firewall, and even tried tweaking it to no avail.

So - still no fix. This is a strange one for me. BTW, the pause is only 2 - 3 seconds. And the network, does NOT pause, I still get the stream in solid. No change in data flow. But the sound stops. This might be a better explaination.

Thanks again . . .

I notice this as well on my XP Pro system.

I like Screamer Radio better:

You can try to add exception for this specific content type (Flash Video), open Web Shield configuration pages, choose Exceptions tab, in the “MIME type to exclude” add new type application/flv.

Did that help?

Hi lukor,

I added this entry as suggested and clicked the thefoxradio.ca link in post 1, eventually when it loaded (sigh dial-up) it has been working without flaw since that point whilst I have been posting on the forum and browsing other sites for a little over 15 minutes.

So it looks like that resolves the issue, will have to wait for input from the OP - even with dial-up which when you mention the word flash makes my modem cringe, none of the previously mentioned problems.

Are there any potential for exploit/security by adding this exclusion, if not are we likely to see this added by default (if application/flv, Flash Video is likely to become more prevalent) ?
