Stuck at 99%

I just installed Avast free version and it ran and is stuck at 99%.

You don’t say what version of Avast Free
What OS?
Any other security software installed?

Have you tried a Repair of your Avast Installation?

Sorry. Windows 8. Version 21.6.2474 (build 21.6.6446.682). I don’t see how you do a “repair”.

See Screen Shot. Go to Menu (top right in UI) then Settings/General/Troubleshooting. Choose ‘Repair App’

Do you know about how long “repair” runs? So far it’s been running for 45 minutes.

That sounds like something is wrong.

Did you reboot before you tried this ?
I’m wondering if the original problem with the install (still running in the background) is the cause here.

I rebooted and it appears to be OK. We shall see. Thanks for your help. In my defense Avast ran on its own right after the install and then hung up. Maybe it should prompt you to restart the computer. Thanks again.
