It has come to my attention that my subscription is about to run out. I am having financial difficulties and may not have the money available. If I don’t renew does that shot off all avast services or just the ones that I gained by getting the subscription??

Not knowing what avast version you have,(I can’t comment specifically) ?
But you would certainly lose any paid features, not to mention you would have to uninstall the paid version and install avast free. You should be able to start an uninstall of avast (version you have) at that point you should be offered installing the avast free version.
The other issue would be ensuring that you don’t have the enable auto payment renewal enabled as that would proceed as normal.
