Sunbelt Kerio Personal firewall most likely cause of BSOD

Those that follow the posts regularly are probably aware that I kept getting BLOD when trying to update to both of the latest Avast versions. I decided today to uninstall Sunbelt Kerio Personal firewall after reading somewhere that a couple of years ago people had an issue with this and Avast, although I personally never had a problem. The firewall will be obsolete anyway by the end of December and all support stopped for it. I therefore installed Comodo free firewall for windows xp on my xp system, did a reboot as required, then updated Avast from the program, rebooted again and EUREKA, all is well and good. I have posted this as a reply to a question I asked, but thought it might be useful to put it as a fresh topic in case anyone else is using the firewall and having issues with it. It is early days and I’ve only rebooted the once, but hopefully all will now stay o.k. and if not, well, I’ll just come back to all the wonderful people on the forum and start again. Thanks one and all.

  1. Another program killed by Symantec… The old and good Kerio…
  2. If you do not install CAV, Comodo is compatible with avast free.
