Suspicious Files - ENG64.SYS and EX64.SYS

Hi. Turned on my computer this morning and found a warning from Avast saying it had detected two suspicious files:

C:\ProgramData\Norton{BUNCHOFNUMBERS}\Norton\Definitions\VirusDefs\20090722.035\ENG64.SYS
C:\ProgramData\Norton{BUNCHOFNUMBERS}\Norton\Definitions\VirusDefs\20090722.035\EX64.SYS

My only options are to Delete them or Ignore them - does anyone know if they are truly dangerous or not?

They look like updates for Norton. I take it you are running 2 anti virus programs ?

And if you are, you must uninstall one of them. (Hint: Uninstall the Norton.)
Then run the Removal tool.
Following that it might be necessary to repair the Avast installation.

Welcome to the forums.

Thanks. I’ll just disable the Antivirus feature in Norton as I’m running the firewall as part of 360.

Yeah, that won’t work, sorry. Sooner or later it will cause significant trouble. Seen/read about it lots. It must be completely uninstalled.
There are plenty of good alternative firewalls around.

Disabling the AV element won’t stop the low level drivers from loading and it is these that are the real ball breakers when it comes to conflict.

There are other firewalls out there many free that do a very good job.

Are there more serious risks associated with running Norton 360 and Avast together?

What could be more serious than a conflict between two AVs fighting for control over a file that locks your system, well one that locks your system during boot, effectively locking you out of the system (unless you boot into safe mode). This is a worst case scenario.

I know my brother tried two and it deleted a very crucial file.
