SVC:Stereo Service rootkit. False positive?

I did a whole lot of updating today, first my Avast and then, finally, my PC from Windows 8 to 8.1. After that was done, I needed to finally update my NVIDIA graphics driver, so I run the update from the NVIDIA GeForce Experience application (v 1.7.0.0). I update the driver to the latest version (GeForce R331 Game Ready Driver - 331.65) and as it was about to finish, Avast popped up with the following Rootkit warning:

File name: SVC: Stereo Service > C:\Program Files
Rootkit name: Rootkit: hidden service

Feeling like this may be a false positive, I chose Ignore as the action and let it finish. I tried to reinstall the driver and see if I could duplicate it, but has some issues there. I eventually uninstalled and reinstalled all the NVIDIA drivers.

Looking online, I saw that similar people had this issue about a year ago:

I’m guessing based on the circumstances, and these other forum posts, that this was a false positive. I’m doing my due diligence and making sure, though. After reinstalling the drivers, I ran a boot time scan which did not find anything. I am going to run Malwarebytes now to confirm. Included is a screenshot from Avast. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

An additional bit of info: I just ran Malwarebytes and it didn’t find anything, either. Attached is the log from MBAM.

I also just wanted to make sure I didn’t do anything wrong by ignoring the warning (instead of deleting) and then proceeding to do some driver re-installation before running a boot scan. I don’t think that would effect too much. After all, if something was there, it would still be detectable after I did all of that.

Yes, this is a False Positive detection.

Hey, thanks for the response and confirmation about it being a false positive. I had couple quick questions, though.

I don’t know what file I am supposed to submit in that link you provided. The Avast warning didn’t include any file paths and there is currently nothing in the virus chest. I chose ignore thinking if it was false positive then I shouldn’t delete it, and if it really was something, Avast would pick up on it at boot time.
