Just 2 days ago i started experiencing GPU problems with my GTX670, I researched the issue and searched my computer and noticed a process called ‘svchost.exe’ was using my GPU presumably to mine bitcoins with cuda or something similar. I’ve tried to remove the malware by doing the following:
Full System Scan - AVAST
Boot scan - AVAST
Quick scan - AVAST
Full System scan - Malwarebytes
Came up with nothing
The svchost process is located in the system32 folder if that helps, i haven’t deleted it so i don’t know if that would help, I don’t know what to do guys, i can’t do anything productive because i cant use cuda and it takes ages, nor can i relax and play a game because my GPU cant contribute :-
I can post any logs you guys may need to assist me but ill reed to know where they are.
Thanks for your help in advance awesome people
EDIT: Didn’t notice the pinned topic, Ill get the logs as soon as possible
[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.
Everything is running well, back to normal 1-6% GPU Usage at idle, back to normal CPU usage aswell and less memory used by the svchost processes
So overall everything seems to be back to normal.
OTS Fix log:
I ran a few benchmarks, made a few renders etc and everything seems back to normal so no! ;D
Thank you so much essexboy, how you even managed to think about this with all the gunfire and explosions over there baffles me
Thanks again
I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems
Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean
A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:
Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.
Clear Restore Points
Go Start > All Programmes > Accessories > System tools
Right click Disc Cleanup and select run as administrator
When it pops up at the first prompt select OK after it has done some calculations the tabs will appear
Select More Options tab
Press Sytem Restore and Shadow Copies Cleanup button
WARNING:Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article and this article.
I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disableJava in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:
Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link
If you use on-line banking then as an added layer of protection install Trusteer Rapport
It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.
I have the exact same problem. is it safe for me to use this fix or do I need to do the log thing?
New here so any help is appreciated and sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.
