Sygate Firewall

I am using a friends computer that has the OS ME and it was difficult to find a firewall. I realized this machine was very vulnerable yo viruses when I first downloaded Avast. I have about 4 separate questions.

  1. When I first scanned on the demo, I found about 5 viruses, malware and trojans. I clicked to send to Chest. Two viruses ended up in the Chest and are still there. I don’t know if I should delete them because they say dll.

cam_gallery.clb and imscan.dll are these viruses that can be deleted from chest?

  1. After the download, I did a thorough scan including the Archive files, and I found about 10 more of these things including a worm, and moved all to Chest, but they aren’t showing in Chest. Where did they go? Two days later I did another thorough scan and found similar. I didn’t keep track of all the numbers and such so I don’t know if they were the same ones, unfortunately.

  2. I then was offered a link to download a free firewall called Sygate, and now I have to decide which .exe applications to permit. IE is easy, Qwest wireless is evident, but I didn’t understand the Avast question. I was worried that it could be a hoax because I didn’t recognize the exe.

  1. Are there any known issues between Sygate and Avast?
    Thanks,
    Suziar

Chest (Quarentine) is safe. It’s better to let the infected files there for two or three weeks.
Rescan them to check if they’re not false positives and to see if your system works ok without that files.
Then delete 8)

Worms could be not a ‘file’. So, removing or sending to Chest could left no traces behind.
The recurring infection should be cleaned :stuck_out_tongue:

Into Sygate settings, the following programs should be allowed to connect:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable)

Don’t need rights to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)

Do you use a local proxy application, like an annonimizer or a content filter (parent control)?
If not, you can use Sygate with avast without trouble.

Welcome to avast forums 8)
