Hello MHG,
Yes MHG, software is getting bigger, not better. This is only to get worse, no choice left outside the pre-installed stuff. Symantic buys again its competition out. How many users would buy Symantec’s system trashing, registry ruining, uninstallable software (I had people beg on their knees to uninstall NAV), that abuse the once reliable Norton name, if it was not coming pre-installed with new computers. And at what a cost. Sygate was a superior product, so the competition is again nipped in the bud. We will see more and more of these things happening when the so-called overbloated total solutions come in, see what Microsoft is planning re: their total anti-malware solution, and what they have bought out or incorporated for that purpose.
A sad day for good free firewalls,

Really bad news for Sygate Personal Firewall users.
Although we can still use the software currently, we may need to consider replacing it. Are there any good firewall applications that are compatible with avast! and free of charge?
look around kenwong you will see reviews and postings all over this forum on kerio ,Zone alarm and comodo who rate well as alternatives that are also free.
Here is another free firewall for you to try.
Hello,
Try the Comodo Personal Firewall it is free of charge, just register it every year for free. I use it and have had no problems, uses barely any resources.

Hello,
That is what I thought Symantec would do from the very beginning, and I was right. Symantec was just getting rid of the competition. But lucky for us that Kerio still lives because of Sunbelt Software’s buyout! plus best part is that they are still giving a free version and they dropped the price of the full pro version.

Having read all the glowing reports for this firewall I downloaded and installed it to replace my Sygate FW.
So far it looks good, runs straight out of the box. Picked up my LAN no problem and all works great.
So far it’s a keeper.
