I recently installed Avast Free 2015 v10.3.2223 and have discovered a problem. When installing Windows updates on Windows 7 Ultra, the system crashed. The crash analysis stated that the problem was most likely caused by Avast. Here is a copy of the analysis:
On Wed 7/15/2015 3:44:34 PM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: aswsp.sys (aswSP+0x1C759)
Bugcheck code: 0x50 (0xFFFFFFFF8F839C28, 0x0, 0xFFFFFFFF83A7ABD6, 0x0)
Error: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\aswsp.sys
product: Avast Antivirus
company: AVAST Software
description: avast! self protection module
Bug check description: This indicates that invalid system memory has been referenced.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: aswsp.sys (avast! self protection module, AVAST Software).
Is this a random problem or a program bug? Thanks.
