System Restore and Avast Free: Latest on this?

Hello:

I’m new to this forum. I’d like to install Avast! Free along with a firewall.

I’m uninstalling my current internet security suite, primarily because it doesn’t allow for system restore in normal mode in its latest version.

I see that this issue with regard to Avast and system restore has been dealt with in several posts here. But I remain unclear as to the upshot of the various discussions on this. My apologies if I’m covering old ground.

If it’s simply a matter of disabling the self-defense module within the user interface, this would be acceptable. But it’s unclear to me whether this is sufficient to allow for system restore to execute in normal mode if Avast Free is installed?

" You need to disable the avast self-defense module and then run the system restore. Do not restore to a previous version before avast was installed. If so, uninstall avast before, than boot, than restore."

Question:

Does the above remain true in the current Avast Free version. And is disabling self-defense module all that’s needed for this issue? Are there other snags to this?

Thanks in advance:
