I have an n00b question: is there any security (virus protection) risk if I exclude System Restore from scanning in Avast Standard Shield? In Norton 2002, for example, System Restore is excluded from scanning by default.

Just guessing, but if you have a virus that is stored in one file contained in the Restore Point - it would not (obviously) be found and when the restore point is restored, the virus will be restored to it’s original location too.
