system32\filt\tmp vbt files

The past few days Avast antivirus has been flagging .vbt files in system32\filt\tmp directory. I’ve found only a couple of references online, but nothing helpful. One said Spyware Doctor creates the .vbt files, but I don’t have that program on my laptop. Another mentioned Outpost Security Suite Pro, but without detail. I have the free version on my computer. I’ve run Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, and a full scan of Avast and can’t find a trojan or virus in the results.

Can anyone tell me if this is a real threat or whether Avast is alerting me for something that’s actually not a problem? I don’t recall ever seeing the System32\filt directory when I’ve been mucking about, but I could have missed it.

I’m running Window 7 64-bit on an Acer Aspire 5250-BZ853, Avast Antivirus Free, Outpost Security Suite 7.1 Free, Malwarebytes, and Spybot S&D. I’m wondering if there are conflicts between some of these security programs, and if that could be causing the problems, but it does seem strange that it would only show up in the last few days, and the constant “new threat detected” is annoying, to say the least, especially when a scan shows nothing.

Any information or experience welcome.

BOTTOM LINE Spybot's skill at cleaning up malware-infested systems is mediocre, and it has almost no ability to protect a clean system. Back in its heyday it was deservedly popular, but that day has long passed. For modern threats you'll need a modern spyware protector.

BOTTOM LINE Spybot was one of the first antispyware tools ever. It's been dormant for a while. Now Spybot - Search & Destroy 2.0 promises to destroy "spyware, malware, adware and other malicious software." In testing, it proved almost 100 percent ineffective.
