Lost 3 drives to win32.vir… not nice. cleared them out ‘formated’ and 3 months of struggle have passed.
Fresh install of Win 7 on a new machine… configuring the system up, working on WMC installing plugins etc.
Avast is running etc… installed a reg hack to get rid of permissions (too much like a nanny state) but to be on
the safe side… I decide to run the virus checker… and whoa Avast isn’t running, panic… shades of 3 months ago.
I try to run it… but I get a window that says ‘something to the effect’ The program you want to run is in side by side config and will not run…
use sxstrace.exe in a dos window to debug… I uninstalled… downloaded a fresh copy of Avast and installed it… Scanned the system
and nothing comes up.
1 Download OTL to your Desktop 2 Double click on the OTL icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted. 3 Under the Custom Scan box paste this in:
4 Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan won’t take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and paste them into your reply as an attachment.
Gads this program OTL is awesome… HighJackThis wasn’t working for me anymore… anyway here’s the dump… OTA first followed in the next message by Extras. Oops… messages exceeds limits… I’ll have to pare it down. No I see the attachment option…
