Recently the avast!IS taskbar icon fails to load on boot up. I have confirmed that avast! is indeed loaded and running just the icon is failing to show. I can manually load the icon by bringing up the avast! GUI. I have tried repairing and reinstalling avast! with no results. Running Win 7 x64. Any thoughts? ???
Any other security software installed ? what was your previous AV and how did you uninstall - did you run a removal tool to get rid of remnants ?
Norton IS was previously installed but I removed it using the removal tool direct from Symantec.
Dont know if this will help more but please run a search for Norton and then Symantec via the search-run bar, once you get the windows explorer panel popup click computer and the system will run a search for you, there should still be some findings which you can delet and reboot, follow up with another repair of avast and reboot.
If still no success then i suggest installing a fresh copy of avast over the top of your existing or even a clean install by uninstalling avast then run the avast removal tool in safe mode rebooting and reinstalling.
Try changing display settings (at least just for a test).
For example, TEMPORARILY apply:
Resolution: 1024x768 x 32bit (4294967296 colors) x 96DPI (fonts, dots per inch).
Then TEMPORARILY apply:
Resolution: 1024x768 x 16bit (65536 colors) x 96DPI (fonts, dots per inch).
Now return to your original display settings.
For each change, just take a look at the tray area. Is the icon there?
Beware: by changing the resolution, the screen may not be clear to read and the desktop icons may be distributed in a different way than before. Please don’t panic and don’t change them, as when you return to the previous original resolution, all will be back to normal.
I did the uninstall in safe mode and the icon is now back! An interesting thing is that my SSL Accounts in Mail Shield were never removed by the avast! removal tool! I thought the tool was suposed to obliterate everything!
Thank you avast! gurus ;D
Glad it’s fixed for you
Hard to say as when you install avast I believe it would detect your existing email accounts and create the associated entries in the Mail Shield.
