Hi all,
I have recently downloaded and installed avast Home for my Xp. However, after the installation and system reboot, an error message “The TCP/IP network transport is not installed.” is coming up and I failed to access internet anymore. So I can only restore the system to earlier status and it resume function normally. Please help.
We will need more information to be able to help you:
- Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
- What avast! version are you using?
- Do you use a firewall? Which one?
- Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?
- Any other security programs that could interfere?
- Any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially ‘Errors’.
I suggest an installation from the scratch:
What do you get if you fully uninstall avast?
- Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
- Boot.
- Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation.
- Boot.
Thanks. I have followed the instruction to uninstall avast from control panel, then run avast uninstall. After reboot, whenever I use the explorer, the system has reboot itself again … sigh … I again need to restore the system back to an older image.

Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
I am using WinXP SP2 currently with IE7 & MP11. -
What avast! version are you using?
I am trying to install Avast 4 Home 4.7 version into my PC. Before this, I have been using Avast already with a version available in Mar07. -
Do you use a firewall? Which one?
Yes, I have enabled microsoft firewall. -
Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?
Currently, I don’t have any antivirus installed. But I have not been using Norton for 3 years before and have started to use Avast since Mar07. Since the Avast failed to update its antivirus database, I have uninstalled it and was trying to install a newer version manually. Thus, the problem come. -
Any other security programs that could interfere?
During the transition period from my old norton into avast, I used Trogan remover. But it was uninstalled now after the expiry of its trial period. -
Any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially ‘Errors’.
Besides of logs of events viewer, I have performed checking via the window itself. An error message telling (PS: messages below were in my OS language, and I try to translate as best as I can, hope you understand what I mean)
(1) “MS Netbios over [MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]] → MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]” cannot be executed and its error code is 10106.
(2) “RSVP UDP service provider” cannot be executed with error code 10104
(3) “RSVP TCP service provider” cannot be executed with error code 10104
I am not sure what to deal with. Please help.
So, it was three years ago when you’ve used Norton. And between Norton and Mar07 with avast, what did you use?
Even have uninstalled before, I won’t trust in completely remove of Norton if you don’t follow…
- Remove NAV through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
- Use Symantec removal tool following the three steps defined in the SymNRT tool info or here.
- Boot.
- Install avast! Boot.
- See what you get.
What was the error message while updating?
Is there any info in avast logs?
Trojan remover is not incompatible with avast.
