Tell your tweaks on UAC

Years after hearing the first news about User Access Control, I finally, made my first contact with it on a Vista machine, which our office got for free as an outlet due to the appearance of Win 7. While I understand/appreciate the direction security-wise, somehow, it manages to feel more annoying than password-based user right control of Linux at times especially on a machine which I am not allowed to install any application.

So, after I googled, in short time, I found a nice trick at good old how to geek site. The trick is basically using Task Scheduler to bypass the UAC prompt. This works like a charm with some small apps while simply using built-in function of the OS.

Do you know any better/useful idea to increase the usability of UAC, without installing an app? As you may expect it, personally, I don’t like the idea of totally disabling it.

you can make it (UAC) prompt you for an admin password too  …but then you’ll still find it more annoying ;D Or you can leave it activated with no prompt at all  >>> all this can be found in local security policy.

Well, not without installing an app, but Norton UAC Tool makes UAC a whole lot less annoying in Vista. (T3h noes, hell’s frozen, I’ve recommended a SW from Symantec and it wasn’t their removal tool :D)

Thanks for the replies. Seems the how to geek’s tip fits my needs best, though. Guess I had done enough homework. Nowadays, just googling almost always leads me to best answers in seconds…how boring. :frowning:

Thanks for your time any way.

It would be nice if they made this tool available for Windows 7.
