I originally wanted to ask if the license keys still worked in Avast 4.8, but the registration email that finally arrived says they will. So thanks for not leaving users of older versions behind. 
This is very kind of Avast. There are some Windows 98 users who are still out there and without 4.8, they would have no protection at all. I know that at some point, there might be a discontinuing of 4.8, but it is good to see that it is still being supported.

To be honest, I think that the only reason it is still somewhat supported is because it is still used in the business environments…and they are testing a new version now, so that may not last…could be wrong though…
The 4.8 patient is very much on life support, so who knows when the switch will be thrown as business clients get the new products and make the transition to avast 6.
So this is just a happy bonus and not something that can be relied upon, support for win9.x, winME was meant to end Dec 2009. It is only because of the business clients still using avast 4.8 that has had a stay of execution on win9.x, winME and avast 4.8.
