Remove avast completely.
Reboot
Cleanup the entire system (remove obsolete folders/files/registry entries)
Install the latest avast version (or the beta if you wish)
Did just that. I uninstalled avast via the control panel, rebooted the PC when asked to, and then removed the Avast folder manually from Program Data
Next, I ran an advanced scan with Revo Uninstaller Pro for the leftovers of Avast. It brought up the relevant registry entries and files, which I removed.
I then started the system in safe mode and ran Avast Clear, where I selected Avast Free Antivirus as the product to remove
I restarted the computer and reinstalled Avast Free beta but the problem was still there.
I never see desktop icons as I have them hidden, I hate a crowded, messy desktop. And use a desktop dock for most accessed programs, folders, etc. and avast’s UI isn’t there either.
Does it really matter (it will be resolved in due course) if clicking that icon takes you to the same place, the avastUI. I honestly can’t see the need for it, other than when in safe mode or you can’t see the tray icon.
It comes down to personal preference at the end of the day. Need can be subjective. Some may need a luxury car to travel from A to B while some may be okay with any means of travel
I just need each of the components of Avast to work properly, even if a component may not have any effect on the core functionality
Looks like something is preventing the change of the icon.
Let’s test something (if you want ofcourse).
Right click the icon and choose properties.
Can you change it to another icon there ?
If avast doesn’t offer another, just browse the drive for any icon and try to set that.
After changing (if that is working), reboot and see if the icon stick or that it has changed back.
Delete old avast icon,go to programs, find Avast icon, right click and go to file location. There you will see the new icon and send it to your main interface. But you must have install the latest beta version first
