The new avast update froze during the download process. I waited about 30 minutes and then canceled it. Now avast update functions are inop.
Just click CTRL+ALT+DEL and kill the avast.setup process.
Start the update again.
Are you using a firewall? Which one? Which is your operational system?
The update process for program could take few minutes (1-5) and the virus database less than one minute.
Which is your avast version?
It is always good to shutdown all programs that not need, becouse you will reboot computer after installation of antivirus.
I got almost same problem when I uninstalled f-secure(internet security), Uninstall got some problems and firewall drivers was left in network protocols. I uninstalled them separatly and then I could download avast, becouse it was just that file what I traid to download first and after uninstallation of f-secure.
The program update finally downloaded and installed. It took over an hour at my 14.4 k baud cell phone connection. The loading continued the next day when I connected to the Net. The download manager did not give any indication of what was happening during the download. This is the problem I see.
My computer is running XP sp2.
