If you ask something, please provide more information.
Think of the following:
What OS?
What exact version of Avast?
What exactly is the problem?
When exactly does it happen?
Is there an error in Avast’s log file? If so, which exact one?
What other applications are running at the time the problem appears?
Look at it this way: You go to a doctor and only say “I’m not feeling well” How is he suppose to make a correct diagnosis?
Hi there, I had this exact same problem (on-access applications would not re-start after being stopped, with error: “The requested resident task was not found. The operation could not be completed.”)
Looking at the error log under Avast > Data > Logs > Error.log, there were many mentions of ODBC problems, for e.g.
3/02/2006 11:36:15 AM 1138926975 SYSTEM 1572 ODBC function SELECT [Id] FROM LocalObjects WHERE ((Label=‘*DefTask0’) AND (Type=1)); failed. Error description: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Unknown.
Follwing the advice above, changing the entry in the .ini file instantly solved the problem on restart.
I’m running Windows XP SP2, with only system tray applications concurrently: Steam, Sygate Personal Firewall, ATI Hydravision, HP printer app.
Thanks for a quick solution.
