The Truth What do you think of windows vista

No matter where I try to download to it says I don’t have enough authority and I am the only user and I I am logged on as Administrator.

I don’t have problems downloading from anywhere else.

Maybe its just my unfamiliarity with Vista.

Where are you downloading it from ???

From the Microsoft site.

well this time I can I had just wrote YoKenny and told him I had a email that some one had reply to the question and I saw the post but there was no reply or quote to click on to reply my self. I was just telling him that if he was having some trouble then he could understand me have trouble with vista because he knows it a lot more then I do {smile}

From here ?:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx

That’s the site.

Now it just sits there with this displayed

Windows 7 RC Download Center

Please wait while the Download Manager begins your download.

I have disabled Vista Firewall Control, made sure all IE extensions are enabled and disabled the HOSTS file.

Maybe Vista knows something I don’t and does not want me to have Windows 7 ;D

By the way, what is a good Free backup application?

There is an alternative which you’ll find at:
http://mysharedfiles.no-ip.org/Windows7Beta/
It may take you a little longer to complete the download however.
My server isn’t as fast as M$. ;D

I’m trying Vista SP2.

I wish I could sell this old XP Home system then maybe I could afford a second Vista system to do Windows 7 testing.

I have Vista Firewall Control Plus and it is quite comprehensive but it does not support my DSL modem so I am disapointed.

I still believe that a well protected system does not need a software firewall:
http://www.besttechie.net/2008/08/20/malwarebytes-developer-interview <== software firewall discussion starts about 8 minutes into the video.

Both videos are excellent.

Did you try the free offer from Online Armor listed in the update thread ? I found it to be an excellent firewall and a free 1 year liscense isn't bad either.

YoKenny, what kind of backup application do you want to use?

Windows has the built-in “NTBackup”, which is decent.

For windows Vista, it’s still there, but there are a few drawbacks, such as not having the ability to backup .exe files without doing a full system backup.

There are online solutions as well, but they are limited in the “free” versions. It’s located in my signature, as well as Tech’s (It’s called Mozy).

Of course there are free disk imaging products as well, but that’s for disk imaging, not file-level backups. I guess you’ll have to be more specific about what you want to do. There aren’t many free solutions to be had though, I’m afraid.

If you want to do disk imaging, I’ve heard good things about Macrium Reflect FREE Edition.

http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp

I use that on my XP Pro system but I forgot about it.

I’ve used Easeus’ Disk Copy (Free) and it has worked well. http://easeus.com/download.htm

My brother is in the Army. 90% of the machines they use are nettops. A celeron or Atom processor, some memory and a network card. They boot from one central server and run over the network. Slow as molasses at the south pole.

YoKenny,

Have you heard of Drive Backup 9.0 Express by Paragon software group and it 100% free version Non-commercial
use only http://www.paragon-software.com/home/db-express/download.html

No thanks!

It wants my email address so that they can bug me with “Offers” that I don’t want!

Use Spamavert Firefox addon in these cases
I know you do not use Firefox, anyway…

Does Firefox clean dishes?
I have a sinkfull right now.

Sure ;D
I can built an extension for that… just that I have little spare time right now: the main concept will be opening the CD drive and put the dish there, then from your USB port a cold water stream will flow… ;D
It won’t be possible to run on DELL computers and Macs ;D

A simple answer to this thead is this:
There’s nothing wrong with Vista that Windows 7 can’t cure.
;D ;D ;D Just get out your checkbook and you too can fix Vista. ;D ;D ;D
