So I installed free Avast and I got the above message. I was not able to install it.
I use Windows 10. So I tried to uninstall Avast but I do not see it in my programs.
So I restarted Windows 10 in safe mode and remove Avast.exe
Then I tried to install the full free Avast but got the same error message in subject line.
What to do now?
Anyone can help?
Be a little more speciffic. Is avast actually having an icon on the desktop plus can you see the avast in your tray. I will be able to help you but tell me is avast actually present?

Were you using the on-line installation method, a small stub installation file about 6.5MB or the off-line installation file 476MB ?
Did you still have your previous/existing antivirus installed ?
Did you ever do a system restart after this installation attempt ?
That is normally required to complete the installation, even with this error it may have completed enough to see it in the programs and features.

Removing a file won’t remove Avast and as far as I’m aware there is no Avast.exe file in the installation, so you would have to be more detailed.
So let me start from the beginning
I went to this website : https://www.avast.com/en-us/index#pc
Install the 256kb file called avast_free_antivirus_set_up_on.exe
And during the installation it says “There was an error while completing the setup process”
So what to do now? I use windows 10 and NextDNS. Here is the log from this error

The cause of this maybe the fact that you didn’t correctly remove your previous security software, what antivirus did you use before avast?
First. Important question to ask you again, as others have. Do you have any other Antimalware/Antivirus software (other than Defender) installed??
OK. So you used the online stub installer for Avast free. That may sometimes run into problems if your internet connection is not stable.
Look here and find the link to the offline installer, download the .exe and run that.

You must then do a Restart.
Note, you will need to be connected to the internet to complete installation and to download latest definitions.
O uninstalled nextdns and then i was able to install avast
So now the question id do i need nextdns on top of avast?
