In ZoneAlarm the program known as “Generic Host Process for Win32 Services” want to accept connections from the internet. It’s a server program that keeps poping up after like 12-30 minutes after computer start-up. I always Allow it to accept connections, but is this program trustworthy? :-\
Generic Host Process for Win32 Services : Also known as: svchost.exe
Svchost.exe is a program that loads Windows services that are in the form of dynamic-link libraries (DLLs).
It is possible for more than one svchost.exe to be running at one time, with more than 1 service being controlled by that process.
Hope that helps
Oh, I guess I shouldn’t worry about that program, thanks. ;D
What you need to do is find the program that is using svchost.exe to connect to the internet, svchost.exe is just the tool, you need to find who/what is using the tool.
I generally block it from connecting. This does interfere with some updates (such as (such as SUN Java), which means I have to allow it on occasions.
remember to also allow these following problams to have access to the internet:
AshServ
Avast! Update
Avast! Email scanner
Avast! Web scanner
Avast! Virus Scanner
Another question keeps bugging me, should turn off firewall for trusted zone? :-\
A simple answer:
I wouldn’t turn of my firewall for my own mother. ( May she rest in peace)
Why? Do you use a network? I mean, more than one computer and a shared printer for instance?
If not, let the trusted zone on High level (or, at least, Medium).
The only thing in my trusted zone is my internet adapter subnet. I was wondering cause my internet seems to be disconnect due to a lost of Default gateway.
Oh, I see now you’re talking about the Internet Adapter… Let it on the Internet Zone and not trusted.
This is not the problem. See and follow here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=13572
