Threat Detected - any webpage

I am getting ‘Threat detected’ messages popping up all the time whenever i am on the internet. It doesn’t matter if it’s Facebook or a new website i get these ‘threat detected’ messages all the time.
I have run Avast scans and found nothing.
The pop up warning says
URL - hxxp://codegv.ru/u.html
infection url - Mal

Any help to clear this up would be appreciated.

Attach your basic logs. (MBAM, FRST and aswMBR…!!)
Instructions: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

Ok ran the scans and have attached the logs.
I have tried to run the aswMBR scan twice and each time it has caused a blue screen crash. I have had my laptop more than 5 years now and have never had a blue screen crash before.

OK, now you’ve to wait a bit…

Let me know if this stops it

CAUTION : This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer

Save this as fixlist.txt, in the same location as FRST.exe
Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that

THEN

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

[*]Close all open programs and internet browsers.
[*]Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
[*]Click on Scan.
[*]After the scan is complete click on “Clean”
[*]Confirm each time with Ok.
[*]Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
[*]Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
[*]You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

quick question

has your cmos reset back to its build date. if the clock shows the wrong time and date it sometimes can cause all sorts of problems with antivirus.

ive got a 6 year old laptop which resets to 2008 whenever it is turned on. no sites can be opened at all but i dont get any virus popups but i do get security certificate risk.

Thank’s for the help.
Ok first log attached am now running ADw Cleaner will post on completion.

Adw log attached.

Doesn’t appear to have fixed the problem as yet.
Still get the ‘Threat Detected’ pop up each time i open a webpage.

OK lets go deeper

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_extraction.png

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Ran ComBofix and attached log file.
Did a reboot and restarted antivirus.
Still getting pop up for ‘Threat Detected’.
Otherwise all is running as was and had no prompts regarding anything Combofix did like programmes marked for deletion.

Does this happen in all browsers or just one ?

Never really used any other browser other than Google Chrome.
just tried IE as it came with the laptop and it ran without any issues.

OK lets now try Chrome in incognito mode https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95464?hl=en-GB let me know if the alerts are still present in this mode, if not we will find the bad add on

Incognito mode works ok with no issues. As you suspect it is probably an add on.

OK boring time…

Start chrome and disable all add ons. Then enable them one at a time until the alerts re-appear. Once you have found it let me know the name

Went down a slightly quicker route and removed all add ons i didn’t really need and disabled all the rest.
Slowly added the ones i wanted one by one and hey presto no further issues so far.
I’ve restarted chrome a few times now and they doesn’t appear to be any issues.

It was obviously a daft add on my missus had been using that i didnt really know was there - now they are deleted it seems ok.

hopefully that’s it,
Many thanks for all your help i would never have figured it all out.

Not a problem as there was a little adware to remove as well

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Click Start then Run.
On Windows7 or Vista you may use Start Search field if Run is not available.
In the box copy/paste the following command:

ComboFix /Uninstall

Note that there is a space between " ComboFix " and " /Uninstall " .

Then click OK (or press Enter ).
Wait for the uninstall process to complete.

Download and run Delfix

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:
