Threat warning popup from Avast - reannewscomm.com

OK, so not sure how this got started, but neither Avast or Malwarebytes can find anything when I scan.

I’m following the instructions on the “Logs to assist in cleaning”. Thanks to everyone up front, I appreciate you all being here to help.

The Avast popup states:

http://reannewscomm.com/ads.php?sid=1926

I have attached two screenshots.

I notice that when I am logged in with my windows Admin user, the problem does not appear. When I am in my daughters User login, that’s when I see the problem.

Any suggestions from here?

Thanks

My OS is Windows 7 Pro.

Guess i wasn’t fully prepared to post. I’m running the Farbar now and will post results after i do that any other steps in the instructions that I missed.

OK. I ran the FRST.exe and received two txt files which I have attached.

The aswMBR program keeps hanging at the following line:
Scanning: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM\IndivBox.key

I’ll let program sit for a while longer to see if it is just processing something, but been there for about 10 minutes.

As mentioned before, the Malwarebytes program seemed to run fine.

Here is the Malware Scan file

Junkware Removal Tool
Please download JRT from here to your desktop.

Note: Temporarily disable/shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts, how to do so can be read here.

Double click the JRT.exe file to run the application.

The application will open an Command Prompt window and run from there (this is normal for this program, so not to be alarmed).

When it is asked, press any key to allow the program to continue / run.

This will create a log on the desktop; please copy and paste the JRT.txt log text in your next post.

Note: After the log file is created, please enable your protection software / reboot your system and verify your protection software is enabled.

Thanks for the reply!! Just woke up and found that the aswMBR scan has completed overnight. I have attached that scan file to this post.

I will get to work with your instructions and reply when completed.

I’m struggling with the FRST.exe program. When I launch it, it goes off and gets an update. After that it give me this message each time i try to run it.

FRST.exe is not a valid Win32 application

It appears that the update is doing this, but I cannot avoid the update because it is done automatically. See attached popup.

Delete the FRST.exe that is on your desktop.
Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool 32bit and save it to your Desktop.
Disconnect from the network (either unplug your wired cable or turn off the wireless adapter). Then run the FRST Fixlist script run. Once that is done, re-connect to the network and post the logs, continue with the rest of the instructions.

Here are the log files. I am going to now change logins to see if the problem still exists. I’ll post results in a few minutes.

Let us know how the system is when you get a chance. Thanks.

(P.S. - The logs look great, just so you’ll know.)

I’ve been struggling with another issue. This virus alert problem happened when I launched Microsoft Word 2010 starter in a user account. But, after doing all the malware stuff, Word wouldn’t start in the user account because of a click-2-run failure.

Word starts OK in my admin account.

I’m still trying to fix this. …

I learned that MS Word 2010 starter is packed full of advertising. I’m wondering if this is perhaps what was setting off the virus/malware alert??

For the time being, if your analysis of the scan files show that the PC is more than likely OK. I’ll consider things fixed. Once I manage to get Word starter going, I will leave a post here.

I appreciate your time and effort here. Thanks.

DONE!

I needed to delete and re-add the user account to get Word running. All is well now in that I do not get any more virus warning messages.

Thanks again for your help, it is very much appreciated.

Yes: a corrupted user account will act like that. Good to hear that you got it solved.
