Thunderbird newsreader and Avast 4.6.603

Avast now seems to be scanning news items when they are read by Thunderbird. I think that this is new behaviour?

Anyway, I now get the following error message:

" A News (NNTP) eror occurred: concurrent connections limit in avast exceeded"

Eventually both Avast and Thunderbird get very upset about this and both crash and die.

Is there a way to switch of scanning news items until this problem is resolved?

Thanks,

Don.

I just installed 4.6.614 and so far it seems to be running OK.

I also learned that Google Desktop Search, which I installed a couple of days ago, can also mess up Thunderbird newsreader.

Don.

You can increase that limit, see

I got one problem but dont know whether it is related to the one discussed above.

The number of messages of one newsgroup changes from 1001 to 5068, and then back to 1001, 5068, … , and so on, when I click between different newsgroups (under the same account) and request to “Get messages for account”.

… and strangely, the number increases by 1 each time. 1001, 5068, 1002, 5068, 1003, 5068, 1004, …

Please help. Thanks.

I was not able to simulate this. Does it have a relation with avast ?

Anyone figured out why this happens? The latest update fixed the need to keep re-entering newsgroup username/password, but this came back (at least the password request did) when I reinstalled Google Desktop Search.

So I’ve removed it again, but it would be nice if the problem went away

Cheers
