Thundertbird freezes with new Avast versions

:frowning: I have Win7 64bit, Thunderbird 38.4
I’m using Avast version 10.4.2233. When I’ve updated to the newer versions of avast Thunderbird gradually freezes and becomes unusable. I had to use system restore to roll back to this version and then everything works fine again. I created the restore point before updating Avast so it’s the only program affected.

I’m wondering:

  1. Will this eventually be fixed in a newer version? The last 2 don’t work. One update started the freezing after a few minutes of using Thunderbird. The last took 3 days before the problems started. Restarting Thunderbird had no effect. Rebooting the computer gave me a few minutes before it froze again. Very strange.
  2. If it’s not fixed how long will this version be supported before I have to switch to another Anti-virus program?

Regarding your second question, Avast 9 which was released back in 2014 if I am not mistaken, is still supported. My policy is always to install the final version. I gave Avast 9 a miss and updated last October from 8 straight to 10.

Perform a clean installation of the latest avast version.
