Sure there is… also searching forum on this topic would give you literally hundreds of hits (search button at the top of each page in this forum) and for sure give you much faster answer to your question…
You need to increase your Internet connection timeout value to some higher number, here is how to do that:
And here you can find some screenshots I attached, so you can follow everything much easier. Remember you have to increase those values in avast! internet mail provider as well as in Outlook Express under all accounts affected with those timeouts.
Well, I have to correct you on this one… that is simply not true. Everybody should have outbound as well as inbound protection. What’s the point of protecting your own computer if you for example, spread viruses outside ? No point…
Everybody should turn on inbound as well as outbound protection. We have to think about other people’s computers and be considerable, not just thinking about safety of our own computer.
As far as your internet connection timeout issue goes, it would be really nice to hear from Alwil guys… maybe they have some ideas. If you increased all those values (in avast! Internet Mail provider and OE), and you still have problems, maybe they have some clue what’s going on…
if you want an explanation of the progress bar issue with avast!, rather than me typing it in again how about you type in “progress bar” in the search box for this forum? You will find an explanation of how the progress bar changes when using avast! … if you still have any questions then get back to us.
Thank you. According to what I’ve read in these posts it appears that the progress bar doesn’t work in OE when Avast is set to scan inbound or outbound mail. Apparently it does in Outlook, though.
I’d take issue with that.
I have a virus scanner. It either works (I have no viruses).
Or it does not (Scanning again on the way out isn’t gonna find anything).
Seems redundant to me. Unless you have an explaination why a virus will only be found when I send email.
It can detect things other than viruses by scanning outbound mail, namely multiple identical emais in a period of time. This could be the activity of a spambot using your system to send spam, already seen in these forums.
