I use my laptop at home without a proxy and at work with a proxy. When I change the proxy setting to no proxy, the previous proxy settings disappear and cannot be recalled later.
Is it possible somehow to simply toggle between the proxy settings instead of always having to fill everything in?
I use an add-on in FF to achieve this.
Are you using FF…??

Thanks for your response, but I don’t know what FF is. Would you care to elaborate?
Oh, got it. I guess you meant Firefox. I use Opera, but to which addon are you referring?
Yes, I meant Firefox.
I’m referring to QuickProxy. Feel free to ask.

When exactly is the proxy a problem (just the web shield and or avast updates) ?
What type of proxy is it ?
If localhost and a port number proxy then it may be possible to add it to the web shield redirects.
Well, DavidR, that’s the right question, I guess. I’m mostly interested in the updates. As to what kind of proxy I use when I use one: it’s an http type, needs basic identification, username, and password; and these are the settings I’d like to toggle on and off, if possible.
Also thanks to Asyn, but that’s not exactly what I meant.
The redirects in the web shield to cater for the use of a proxy aren’t connected to updates, so that wouldn’t work.
Well you should be able to set the proxy in the avastUI, Settings, Updates, Proxy Settings, see image.
Why the previous settings aren’t remembered and just greyed out I don’t know.
If you set them to the work proxy in the avast update settings, and left that all the time, automatic update checks wouldn’t work at home, but using the Manual Update might still work as I think it would use the existing connection.
Presumably you are using a LAN at work and it is that which requires authentication:
If you were to set it to Auto detect (use Internet Explorer settings) and set your proxy up in IE, Tools, Internet Options, LAN Settings, but I don’t see anywhere to input authentication. So without authentication in the IE LAN Settings I don’t see this being a goer.
Thanks again, DavidR.
Using explorer settings has not worked.
I suppose what I’m really looking for is a way to tweak avast5.ini, but how to go about this is unclear to me, and then to toggle between 2 different versions of avast5.ini with one mouse click.
It’s not that I don’t sleep well at night, but getting this toggling thing to work would be nice.
Well, you could setup another account on your machine.
So you would have one for home and one for work.
Just a suggestion.

Hmmmmm.
Sounds intriguing, Asyn.
I’ll have to think about that, but thanks for the idea.
You’re welcome…!

You’re welcome, sorry that little test didn’t work out. But the dual accounts for the different locations seems a workable idea.
