I updated my Avast, it’s now running build jul2004(4.6.691), xtreme tookit v1.9.140
VPS file compilation 7/8/05
file v0527-2.
I am running winxp sp2 with sygate home edition firewall.
This is my problem, I get those two SAME error/warning messages whenever I visit a website. I tried to set the settings to normal and high. I got the same error/warning messsages. Anyone know what is wrong? this started after I updated yesterday and avast told me to reboot. I hope I don’t have to reinstall windowsxp again???. Avast has worked pretty well for me so until today. Anyone know how to fix this? This happened in both mozilla and IE6
btw, I use winxp pro encryption file system. I have encrypted mydocuments dir. I tried turning sygate firewall off. I tried this in both power and adm accounts and I got the same result/problems. thanks.
One more thing, I tried the online virus test @ http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm
and avast detected everyone of them during download. So I am puzzled why I keep getting these errors and warnings…
Yes, am I the only one who is having this problem? Perhaps, if others can check their antivirus section in their event viewer logs they will find the same errors and warnings.
Could it be that the new Avast scanner is not permitted to scan certain dirs and certain files? in the web shield, customized, EXEMPTIONS section, there is a list of audio/video/and some other files that are exempt from scanning. Maybe it’s an internal avast program conflict? thanks for your reply.
Could you also try a REPAIR of the avast installation? (Control Panel → Add/Remove Programs → avast Antivirus → Change/Remove → Repair)
The error code you quoted is quite strange (it means that something went really wrong…).
For sure, the updates will be ok. I’m not that self confident about the upgrades :-
I can’t test as I don’t have a power user account. Just with Administrator rights one…
Here I want to listen a user that already tested this situation (or Alwil team of course).
Only the installation requires administrator privileges. All other actions (including the updating and upgrading) should work even when running under regular user.
This is because the updating process takes place inside a system service process.
This mass of errors started after a late afternoon restart of my system on 07/16 (Pacific time).
I ran a “repair” of avast that made no difference.
On 07/18 I reverted my system to start of day on 07/16. The errors stopped being recorded in the event log.
Later on 07/18 I restarted my system. Following the restart the same errors are accumulating in the antivirus event log from such sites such as cnn.com and bbc.co.uk.
