Trial and freeze

I downloaded the Internet Security trial 2 days ago. Now I’m having problems. My laptop freezes and I need to reboot often. I’ve had it start to boot and stop right before the icons start showing on my desktop, that happened once. Now it freezes randomly.

What can I do? Thanks!

  • Which version of IS…??
  • OS…?? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
  • Other security related software installed…??
  • Which AV did you use before avast!..??
  • Which version of IS…?? The 14-day free trial that popped up 2 days ago.
  • OS…?? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?) I use Windows 7 32 Bit
  • Other security related software installed…?? No
  • Which AV did you use before avast!..?? The latest free one

Thanks for your help!

What do you mean…?? What is the latest…??

  1. Download avast! Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Do this for all prior installed versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Thanks for the advice! Actually I ran a full scan and there were viruses…ugh. :o Avast! found them and removed them! I am so thankful.

These were what was found:
Win32 VB-SLO (trj)
Java.Agent-Om (Expl)

and during the last scan:
Win32: Malware-gen

There were also a bunch of posts that showed up during the scan that I’m curious about:
IE5 Temp Int files that said the CAB-file is corrupt. 42127 on Windows 6.1

Should I do anything about those?

Thanks again!
Linda

No, corrupted archives are no danger.
