In one of my systems I had uninstalled avast and installed the new comodo antivirus for testing. While scanning it detected a trojan dropper,win32.vb.il in one of the folders. My avast was up to date and the folder containing the trojan was apparently was created on jany 06 and all this while avast was active ???
First you should confirm it isn’t a false positive. You could check the offending/suspect file at: Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive.

It may well be a trojan, which may not be truly a virus but a downloader which in itself doesn’t directly infect your system. avast specialises in virus detection there are programs that specialise in trojan detection and the two can work to give a layered defence. Ewido Security Suite If using winXP. or a-Squared free if using win98/ME.
If it is correctly detected Jotti confirmation, etc. and if you are not getting a virus warning that you believe is a new, undetected virus then if you can zip and password protect (‘virus’, will do) the suspect file and send it to virus @ avast.com (no spaces), or send from the chest.
Give a brief outline of the problem (possibly a link to this thread), the fact that you believe it to be a either a new or undetected virus and include the password in the body of the email. Some info on the avast version and VPS number (see about avast {right click avast icon}) will also help.
E-mailing doesn’t really help, all of my virus samples that I have ever sent to Alwil (and I can confirm that these files were true viruses) never got added.
If you don’t bother then they definitely won’t be added, so then you have no one else to blame. But then again I thought you no longer use avast, so this advice not to submit samples is both unhelpful and unwise in light of the fact that another staff member has been added to the virus submissions side.
Yes you have personal experience of sample submissions and so have others, RejZoR, who probably submits more samples than most has a different experience to you as do many others, the samples I submitted were added.
