Trojan-gen{other}

Hello,

My recent Avast scan found a virus with the path C:\System Volume Information_restore 8E713BBE-093D-4EB4-890. It was identified as W32:Trojan-gen
{other}.

I can’t access C:\System Volume Information even with unhiding hidden files and folders and one other step which escapes me? If I mouse over C:\System Volume Information the message says folder empty.

Any advice or help appreciated

You have to take ownership/possession of the folder using an account with administrator privileges, right click on it, Properties, Security and give yourself Allow privileges for what it is you want to do.

avast should have been able to move it from there to the chest anyway, was there a problem or there shouldn’t be a need to go looking for it ?

Hi 65trumbull,

The issue was discussed in this thread:

There’s a way to view files in System Restore (as David mentioned), as well as a way to check if it’s a genuine detection, and a way to clean up System Restore- if you let avast! delete the file, that’ll do it, but also break that restore point, so best to create a clean one.

Turn off restore > restart your computer > turn on restore
