Trojan JS:lllWill Please Help

A couple of days ago I lost all the 2005 messages I had stored in my inbox in Outlook Express…and all the ones for this year as well. I ran my avast scan and came up with two trojans…JS:lllWill both of them. That day my email downloaded to a point and stopped…so I tried it again and it stopped again. I think I must have downloaded it twice. Avast says that it is in my Identities\Outlook Express file and has all the numbers and letters to exactly pinpoint the letters infected. When I tried to put it in the chest, avast told me an error had occurred…same thing when I tried to delete it. I downloaded avast’s virus cleaner and ran it and it didn’t find it. I also ran my Ad-Aware program which did not catch it at all. …also tried Symantec. I cannot find any website that mentions removal of this particular trojan…please can someone help me? I am not well-versed in computer lingo…so please be plain. Thank you.

Welcome to the forums, tobi.

If you have XP for OS (you did not say), Ewido is very good with removing trojans that are resistant to anti-virus programs. Try downloading Ewido, update it, and then run it.

Thank you CharleyO for your response…I do not have XP…and I do have ME
Should I still try what you said?

It isn’t wise to store emails in the inbox (as you have found out), the inbox is the one most likely to suffer corruption in a crash (as it is likely to be open) or even deletion.

Having a large number of emails in a folder usually slows its opening in OE.

Currently I have 1 email in my inbox, once I have read it I will move it to a folder more appropriate to its content, personal, newsletters, etc. I also have folders, archive05 archive04, etc. with emails for a given year etc. I also have a pending folder so if I have read it but not actioned or decided what folder it should go into, it goes into pending. I also back-up my email folders (.dbx files) so if the worst happens I can recover data.

Sorry if this isn’t exactly helping you with your problem.

Thank you all so much for your help. The trojan is gone. I am a bit afraid to try the restoration process…it has been several days and it seems over my head. I will try to do it tomorrow afternoon. I will definitely not leave emails in my Inbox any more…thank you for taking the time to tell me why I shouldn’t and make it easy for me to fix up folders to put them in. I am impressed with this forum and will definitely recommend it to others. Thank you each very much.
Tobi
