Hello all,
I seem to have a problem, but I may have nipped it in the bud already. I was browsing the internet, and as I was getting up to shovel the drive I saw the Java console open. (I’ve had problems with Java before, so I set the Java console to open when applets try to run as a sign of trouble.) I’m not sure exactly what happened next as I didn’t think much of it and went shoveling for 20 minutes. I came back to a computer that had restarted and had a fake antivirus running and had managed to prevent avast from starting at boot. A quick restart into Safe Mode and scan with Malwarebytes found a “Trojan.Dropper” in the temp folders but nothing else. Avast is performing a full scan now, but did not find things in the temp folder when I asked it to scan there. If Avast finds anything else I’ll update, but it is dragging along in safe mode.
I had Malwarebytes fix what it found, and it quarantined and removed successfully. Is there any further actions you would recommend?
