Trouble Loading

Hi all,
First post. Old user. Never had any problems. Love avast. ;DPutting on my father in laws computer Compaq XP home SP2. Dumped Norton 2005 Suite using add and remove programs. Running Ad aware - temporarily stopped for install. other than that just generic old Pop up Blocker.
I get the splash screen and the 1,2,3… instruction pop up and a radio skin with what seems like limited capabilities. Most importantly (and now annoyingly) I cant get a blue “a” ball or a VRDB “i” ball in my tool bar indicating on access protection or database monitoring.

Read what I thought were related posts and installed the latest beta version to no avail - or should I say no avast!

Gotta Run the Norton removal tool in addition to add remove program
(Antivir also has a removal tool which may find some things the norton tool misses)
run ccleaner or similar
remove Avast
run the Avast Removal tool
reboot
reinstall latest Avast

someone else may come along with the links
stick with avast

Im not sure what is happening but you can try if it works by removing norton with Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista to remove leftovers.

Thanks for the pointers. Executed all as directed to no avail. Simple user interface but NO balls!!!

Please help with any other thoughts as I dont know what coverage I have or not at this point!!??
