Trouble sending mail

This is the second time this has happened and my old brain can’t remember how I got my “send” mail back. I updated Avast and somehow my settings were changed so that I can receive my mail but can’t send it. I use WinMe, OE 6, like I said this happened before and somebody on the board helped (I think).
