Trouble when sending attached files with e-mail

I have some trouble when I’m sending e-mails with large attachments (500kb and above).
I use Outlook Express 6.0.
After a while that I has ‘sent’ the e-mail I get the message of that my SMTP server isn’t responding. (I have the choice to ‘wait’ or ‘cancel’).
Could this have something to do with that I send files that are zipped?
Anyone who knows what I should do?

Jeanette

LBA,

I don’t think so. A non responding server could be the result of many different causes:

  1. the server could be down,
  2. the server could just be busy,
  3. the access number you are using could be tied up (low bandwidth available)
  4. or you are not sending the proper authentication code.

Can you receive mail ok?

Have you checked the “timeout” setting in OE for SMTP transfers (Sending stuff)?
Open OE/Toos/Accounts
Then double click on your mail account. Open up the tab Advanced.
You can move the “slider” to increase the time. It is normally set at 1 minute. Large files may take a bit longer. You can try 2 minutes and see what happens.

Good luck

Are you using Avast?

I use Avast Home (the free version).
I tried to increase the “server timout” time to 5 minutes (it’s the most you can choose), but I still got the message about server not responding.
I have no trouble receiving e-mails, with and without attachments.
I use a 56K modem, so I don’t have the fastest connecting.

Could it have something to do with the settings for Outlook Mail in Avast?
