I purchased the internet security for 3 pc’s. I had no problem getting it to download to my laptop, but when I try to download to my husbands I keep getting the same message. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled but same problem as follows:
The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.
Can you help me figure this out? I do not want to go without protection on my husbands pc.
have you uninstalled previous used antivirus before installing avast?
have you run the vendors removal tool to clear all leftover files that may conflict

I believe that the error message you are getting is more a Windows error than anything else. If you Google “side by side configuration is incorrect” you will get numerous links detailing this error message and steps to take to solve it.
Good luck . . .
This error could mean that C++ which is required by the avast installation is missing:
Side-By-Side Configuration is Incorrect Error - You need to install MS Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable.
You need 2008 SP1 - this is the one:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update
Note this link there are 64bit versions there (IA64, x64) ensure you get the correct one for your OS (x86 32bit OS, x64 64bit OS)
