Ok, after dealing with some virus/malware, I am trying to do a system back up , I get error code :
I finally got the E: drive available, and now its giving me this. Its probably painfully simple, but I really appreciate the ability to learn. I am looking foward to one day being able to help others with their problems, but for now, I am the one in need. Thanks in advance…again.(LOL)
Ok …I believe I may have fixed this problem. however I still need your guidance I believe. If possible I would like to back up everything, It is a TSST corp DVD/CD drive - I have 2 of them, I don’t know which is what … I know the top one burns, and both work playing cds, dvds. Don’t ask me what else…cause there are plenty things I don’t know.
Now, I was reading about how windows didn’t allow CD’s to be used as a source for backups… ??? I assume just to make us consumers ask that very question. Well as I read in CNET ( I explore, and research all forums, to verify what and how to use what I have) and they said I could save it to my hard drive, then copy it to the disk, I am backing up doing that, using C:, I also have a D drive, that automatically names itself RECOVERY, But everytime I access it, PCangel restricts me from going any further, so I don’t want to store files, that I can’t access.
What I ESSENTIALLY want is to be able to discard all outdated versions, update drivers, and defrag to make my system optimal. :-\ if that makes any sense.
Then I read also that you can make a reboot copy of your OS, I have Roxio creator 9 that allows me to make bootable disc, but I haven’t ever gone that far, I can barely convert legal videos using bit torrent, and burn them to DVD.
If I ever have to to a TOTAL RESTORE ( back to out of box settings and everything) I would prefer not to have to lose all the updates, hotfixes, drivers, so on and so forth, …
I know that sounds like a tall order to me, but I am asking, and I have heard that there are no stupid questions. SO with that…what do you suggest? ??? :-[
I am not sure about the log in ?
I have one user on this, the only way I know to access log on info is in safe mode,
I am the administrator, in this house, but …don’t know how to …go figure?
as far as the “other folder” , I didn’t know I needed to create a folder, since it is a DVD drive, I thought it wasn’t able to be used , or downloaded to?

that's too long of a time.... Smiley I can can backup in 20 minutes to an external drive
That depends entirely on how much you need to back up. It also depends what your backing it up to.
Backup to DVD's are a lot slower than backing it up to a Hard drive.
Best or quickest are also not the same and safest medium may not be the quickest.
Pros
HDDs, whilst generally are quicker depending on internal/external IDE/SATA or SATA2 or eSATA connections, then you have Firewire 400/800 and then USB1.1 ans USB2.
Cons
HDDs internal or external are a) subject to failure b) subject to infection, both of which could stuff your back-ups.
DVDs are generally slower, but not prone to infection (other than if you happen to copy infected data). They don’t fail to often but it would generally be limited to 1 back-up as you would use 1 or possible more for an individual back-up. They can be stored off-site (in case your house burns down) and don’t take up much room.
So there are many different permutations to decide on.
The amount that needs to be backed up usually determines the media used.
My full backup equals 1.2 TB and since I don’t manufacture DVD’s, my backups are always done
to a removable USB Hard Drive.
so looking on the macrium site i would use linux or pe bart version ? my pc came with a recovery disk which im sure almost all pc s do. so is backing up my computer now like making an updated version of that? im sorry if it seems i keep asking questions. especially if it seems its the same basic question in a different form. i am very thankful for your help.

yes,exactly as it is now.

I would try the linux boot disc first. only thing I'd suggest is when you create it is to select the advanced settings, then check "compatibility mode".
macrium does have a user forum to help with issues. “nick” is the owner of the company and personally answers most questions/issues.
