Hi, I am trying to go to my settings but cannot because it keeps asking for a password, problem is I never set one, I know I never set one because I only made this account after the issue came up to be able to set a password hoping it would work with the new one, it didn’t.
I have seen other posts of similar issues but all of them were resolved by uninstalling the program, however I cannot do this as uninstalling requires the same password because self defence mode is enabled, which I cannot disable because that requires accessing the settings…
The only close solution I found was to uninstall with command prompt but that gives me an error message, this being that to edit the “Stats.ini” file I need admin privileges but I cannot see how to make the changes as admin, even changing the owner of the Avast file in my Program Files to “Everyone” or specifically my user changes nothing and it still says I need to get permission from an administrator.
How do I remove/change this password or uninstall Avast so I can reinstall it to actually set the password?
I have tried this twice, reinstalling the uninstall utility in between and neither worked, as the self defence mode flags the attempted uninstall and asked for the password that doesn’t exist,
How do i go about “deactivating” avast without accessing the settings?
The instructions clearly state that you have to do it outside of Windows, disabling self-defence won’t do it.
Download the avastclear.exe uninstall utility and save it to a familiar folder on your PC (saved to Downloads folder by default).
Right-click the file and select Run as administrator. If prompted for permissions, click Yes.
Click Yes in the Avast Clear dialog to start your PC in Safe Mode.
Select the folder containing your Avast program files, and select the Avast Antivirus product you want to uninstall (the location and product are usually detected automatically). Click Uninstall.
To resolve the issue with Avast’s self-defense mode and password, you can try these steps:
Boot into Safe Mode: Restart your computer in Safe Mode, which might bypass Avast’s protection.
Use Avast Clear Tool: Download and run the Avast Clear tool (available on their website) to uninstall Avast in Safe Mode. This tool is designed to remove Avast even when self-defense is enabled.
Change Permissions for Stats.ini:
Right-click the Stats.ini file in the Avast folder, select Properties, go to the Security tab, and click Edit.
Set your user account to have full control, then try again.
Contact Avast Support: If the issue persists, contacting Avast support may provide more direct assistance.
