I know this sounds really dumb, but so whenever I have a computer problem, the tech tells me to turn off my anti-virus program. How do I do that?? I have version 4.7 home edition. Also, when I click on the question mark in my avast window, it does not do anything.
Thanks,
Shari ;D
What is the problem you are experiencing as there are very few reasons to disable your anti-virus ?
If the tech is like ISP support or a a computer manufacturers support, with no disrespect many are working from a script and have little working knowledge of modern AVs.
Right click on the avast ‘a’ icon and select, Stop On-Access protection, this is severe every provider is stopped when not al need be stopped or paused depending o the problem. After having done what is required the same dril but the Start On-Access protection is the choice.
However, please state why you need to do this before taking this action as it may not be needed.
What window is this ? mark on ?
If it is on the Simple User Interface, it should allow you to then click on a part of the skin and it will tell you what it is.
Thanks for the info DavidR.
I am having a problem connecting via wireless, and that is when 2 different techs told me to turn off my anti-virus program.
I did find out how to use that question mark in the main window too thanks to you.
Shari
Your welcome, this however would have been best kept with your original post, and I can try to offer some other choices rather than simply disabling avast.
I don’t want to do that in another topic as it just becomes disjointed with information spread over two topics.
Please paste this in to your original topic, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=27770.0.
