In the definitions folder C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\defs as you can see in the attached pic there are two folders with nearly the same size.
The first is 66.7 MB (69,973,547 bytes and the second is 66.7 MB (70,040,685 bytes).
The aswdefs.ini file contains this line: Latest=11121501.
Is this a backup of the definitions?
My Avast version is 6.0.1367 and was updated from older version.
No, it is not a backup - it’s just one of the previous definitions which is still loaded for some reason.
It will disappear eventually.
I did a fresh install of Avast. There was only one folder but after few hours Avast updated automatically and now there are two folders.
That is the way it works, you start with the latest virus definitions in a folder, as you get any incremental VPS update is combined with the previous full virus database in a new folder which reflects the new complete database.
The avast housekeeping periodically cleans the old folders.
You are most likely to have whatever is the current one (which is reported in the aswdefs.ini file) and the previous one.
This is clear now. Thank you.
You’re welcome.
