Two virus entered after 'EScorcher' download

I obviously have AVAST as the number one anti-virus, but a pal (supposedly) recommended a second back-up anti-virus utility ie; EScorcher.
After downloading this and doing my customary scan with Avast yikes…!

WIN95:sk and WIN32 KUANG 2 appeared - Avast recommended into the chest with’em!
How did these materialise with Avast on patrol?
I also have Zone Alarm/EZ antivirus installed.

Any help please would be appreciated.

some antiviruses (e.g. Panda) don’t encrypt theirs data files and as result Avast report them as infected …

Thanks for the info, but the viruses were real enough, the KUANG 2 virus is a Password stealer!
I am not too sure what you are telling me
Does EScorcher a supposed anti-virus utility come with lots a bad add-ons?

What files are reported as infected and what is their location?

And it is not recommended to have two av’s on one system. Better use 1 or 2 online scanners as backup.

I must admit I have never heard of EScorcher as an AV and as mentioned it could be an unencrypted Virus Signature file. I would do some analysis of this AV using google and see what crops up.

Also if this AV is a resident scanner like avast, then you could have conflict between AVs.

You can double check the file/s reported at www.virusscan.jotti.dhs.org if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive.

You could also use an on-line scanned as a backup.
TrendMicro’s Housecall
Bit Defender On-line Scanner
F-Secure On-line Scanner ActiveX required
These are just a few of the many on-line scanners out there, check out RejZor’s Website - Security Ops for more On-line Virus Scanners Security.Ops.tk

Hi Eddy,
Thanks for your input.
info’ as follows:

imscan.dll c:\windows\system32.A… win32:Kuanga 2
kernel40.dll c:\programmefiles\eScorcher win95:sk

The first one is a false positive, just as it happens with Panda.

I would completely remove eScorcher. Why?

Many thanks Eddy.
Completed the actions outlined.
Just goes to show what is out there!
Nice one.
Cheers!

Just one simple question… Is EScorcher based on Panda engine?
That could be the reason for detection of those two files…

Hiya,
According to Etrust article (supplied by Eddy) this utility is ad-supported, so I guess that says it all!
Thanks for all the input
Cheers

I hope you put your pal straight about his recommendation ;D and told him to get rid of his EScorcher.

Don’t worry David, that was the first thing I did.
A verbal thick ear works wonders for the soul!
I told him thanks but no thanks for his next tip

Cheers!!
