AVAST Anti Virus Program
Typical Alternative Sound Settings under Windows-XP-pro-Sp3
-Note1-
Why? The AVAST sounds are annoyingly loud, for example when playing music on the PC.
-Note2-
WinXP comes standard with a very limited selection of media sounds, compared to for example
win98se plus. Still, it’s enough to use an alternative sounds scheme, like the one following right now.
Automatic VPS Update= Windows XP Hardware Insert.wav
Detection of suspicious message= Windows XP Ringin.wav -or- Windows XP Print complete.wav
Mouse over the simple user interface button= Windows Navigation Start.wav
Other malware found= Windows XP Ringin.wav
Program end= chimes.wav
Program start= Windows XP Hardware Remove.wav
Simple user interface button pressed= Windows XP Start.wav
Task done= ding.wav
Virus found= Windows XP Notify.wav
Of course similar actions are possible when using Windows Vista and Windows 7. ;D
I second this statement, but to be frank, I rarely interact with avast on a daily basis so the only sound I hear once or in very rare cases twice a day from avast is “Virus database has been updated” and I don’t mind that much.
I can’t recall if XP’s sound recorder was much like the old one from win95. If yes, then you can open the files with the recorder and lower their volume. That should work.
For me it was good, especially when a virus was found. The sensation of having all your adrenaline flow throughout the body after hearing a very loud alert in the time of total silence at night.
It feels like it wasn’t that suitable for those with weak heart.
This is “especially good” for those weak of heart.
I joke of course.
I have one better tech. Had avast, “proudly” announce that the database has been updated right before one of my presentations. Laptop was plugged in to the room’s speaker system with the volume turned half way. Never saw 60 people look at me that fast before. ;D
well I have an antenna with a few channels:
CTV, CBC, TVA, TQS, Radio Canada, and on good, clear sunny days even Global. :
not what I’d call tv but never the less.
Thank you for the secondary links… The issue is that I only have a limited Internet connection from Bell so watching internet TV at home is out of the question. I’ll see them later tomorrow if I have time.
Well if it were I would have had 60 people look at me in horror and 6 team members with a few bones (mine I’d imagine) to pick. I was the one who was the designated “computer technician”. ;D
