unable to activate nokia ovi music site and download music

Hi guys
Hi i am new to this site, so i hope you can help me out. I bought Avast 4 professional edition earlier this week. I downloaded it and then was unable to properly load my nokia software and access my account details or log in. Hence, i was not able to register my new computer. I have since deleted my Avast pro edin and guess what no problems with downloading from Nokia Ovi music site. However all i have between me and the world of computer desease (Viruses!) is a fire wall. I would like to reload the avast software but want to know what i would need to deactivate to allow my computer to access Nokia…Can you help ,has anyone else had this problem. I have tried to contact Avast direct but as yet they have not got back to me.

Well avast doesn’t block, but scans and alerts to infection, so if there appears to be a form of blocking then it is most likely a conflict, probably with another security program.

Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

What is your firewall ?

Are you able to browse other sites normally ?

Hi DavidR
My fire wall is microsoft
orginally i hade avast hoem installed however my computer packed up last week so dell replaced the hard drive and motherboard so there was’nt any security on it before. I downloaded quiet alot of software from Microsoft which i presume is because my original back-up OS was XP prof and its two years old. I was able to browse on other sites although at tiems the computer did not respond very quickly.
Cheers

Hello Paul,

Maybe you could download a portable version of ccleaner, and tell us what is shown in the Tools/Startup section. It might give other forum members an idea of which program might cause this block.

On the ccleaner website make sure to choose the portable build (non install version) in section Download/Other Builds/portable. Then unzip it and run it.

Please feel free to report back what you see then in the tools:startup section of ccleaner,

Actually, although I do not use Pro edition Avast itself, the problem might simply be that the script blocking function of Avast Pro prohibits you from entering your account details on the Nokia sites.

There must be an option in Avast Pro to turn off temporarely the Script blocking function, or to specify ‘per site’ preferences I guess…

With avast Home version were you able to access the Nokia music site ?

What is the URL you are trying to access and does that require that you logon ?
If you have to log on does it start on an http or https page ?
What browser are you using (include version number) ?

With being able to access other sites it would tend to support that it isn’t firewall blocking or it would effect all of them.

Dell have a habit of installing lots of crapware unless you specifically say no, this can include trial products namely anti-virus applications. So presumably they didn’t install any trialware.

Can you give us some information about your system:
Operating System, CPU, RAM method of connection to the internet, etc. ?

Hi guys
Thanks for being so helpful. I am afraid my computer knowledge is limited so some of your questions are going over my head.I think that the script blocker may have something to do with it. It all ran perfectly with Avast home. I use a router to get to the internet. i have two gigs of ram and 2 duo intel processor. i dont know what browser I use (actually i dont know what a browser is…! perfectic i know… I will try to find out. What is a cpu? I did notice that their was option to pause the script blocker but when i did that it still did’nt work. I will look into this cleaner thing
I will speak again tomorrow
Thanks again everybody
paul

Pause may not work as the process would still be active but not scanning and there may be som other conflict.

Only recently there was a topic where there was a conflict with some on-line banking validator or something like that, do you have any such tools ?

Try disabling the splash screen in the Script Blocker settings and see if that works as that somehow got round the conflict before. If that doesn’t work use the Terminate option and see if that works.

The CPU you have given (Central Processing/Processor Unit) Intel Core 2 Duo, like mine in my signature below my posts. The reason I asked about the system specs to see that there adequate so that that wouldn’t be slowing anything and all should be fine with those.

You are using browser when you visit this site, e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, to name just two browsers.

Hi david R I am using internet exployer as my web browser. On my last computer with the old hard drive and mother board it was firefox.
I will try to reinstall it tonight and disabling the script blocker or the terminate options.
i will get to you all
Thanks again
Paul

The script blocker doesn’t work with firefox anyway, but the idea of doing the tests (disable splash screen then terminate the script blocker) ‘first’ is to try and pinpoint the cause.

Hi David R
I have disabled the script blocker as you said and it appeared to connect fine…Yahoo!. But decided then to re-engage it (i was curious)and it still worked! I’m not sure whether that worked or that I reloaded to whole avast prof software but its working fine
Thanks for all your help… much appreciated
Cheers
Paul
